Meet
Mack!
He was our class mascot last year in Grade 3/4! Every week, a student in my class would take Big Mack (as the kids affectionately called him) home for the weekend. He was a reward for good behaviour, positive attitudes and hard work.
Mack always brought his green journal with him and students had to write about what they did over the weekend in a short paragraph. They also had to draw a picture, and present it to the class on the Monday when they brought him back.
This is the letter that Mack “wrote” to parents to explain
why their child was bringing him home, and what the “rules” were.
Mack had a great time visiting with everyone's families last year. He went to dance competitions, to the movies, wrestled with a student's dog (oops!), had breakfast in bed, jumped on a trampoline, went skating, starred in movies, played hockey and even went ice fishing!
Throughout the year, we also incorporated Mack in a few of our writing activities. For many of the kids, he was a favourite subject when it came to journaling! We also wrote adventure stories with him as the main character. He became a huge part of our “class family”.
So much so, that students talk to me about
him every time they see me and they always ask how he’s doing.
He’s now living in my son Ty's room, and watching
over him. Of course, I had to repair a few holes and add a tad more stuffing to him because he was loved so much! ;)
