I love journaling and I think it's a great way to get my students writing freely on a daily basis. However, students sometimes struggle with finding a topic to start their journaling. We all know the kind of student who could sit for hours and not write a single thing because they "have NOTHING to write about" (insert whiny tone here). Here's the solution!
I usually give my students two choices of prompts as part of their morning work, as we get agendas organized and wait for morning announcements. If they don't want to write about what I suggested, then they can write about their own idea. I mix it up a little by posting a photo instead of giving a prompt once or twice a week...more of that in a later post!
