Tuesday, Julie, from Plaisirs du primaire, and I drove from the Sudbury area, which is close to a 4.5 hr drive. We were so excited to meet all these wonderful teacher sellers who we've gotten to know online over the last couple of years!

We then met Erin from Mrs. Beattie's Classroom and Christina from Hanging Around in Primary as they were staying at the same hotel we were. It was amazing to finally meet them in person! We all felt like we knew each other so well already!

The next morning, we made a quick trip to the farmer's market, then headed on over to Emma's Back Porch for the meet up. Right away, when we walked in, Karen gave us a huge hug, as if we knew each other. It. Was. AWESOME! Her and Talya were so friendly! They asked us tons of questions about the teaching situation in Ontario and about our schools and our classrooms (after asking if our winters were cold!).
We spent about an hour mingling with over 40 other teacher sellers from the area. We met Margie from Coach's Corner, Tina from Tina's Teaching Treasures, Heidi from Secondgradealicious (who had her beautiful baby girl with her), Najda from Garden Full of Knowledge, Tammy from Teaching FSL... and the list goes on and on. It was thrilling to put a face behind the store button and logo!

After some discussion time, we took a group photo (I'm so sorry to the few that were cut out of the picture...my phone was on a weird setting! I was so mad!) and videotaped a song that Ahn-Thi from Tangstar Science prepared for us. Look for it on the TPT Blog soon!
Before we left for our long drive, Julie and I gave Karen and Talya a gift of homemade wild blueberry jam (Sudbury is known for it's wild blueberries) and strawberry jam. We also gave them a basket full of maple candies for the TPT staff room on behalf the of TPT Eh Team. They loved the treats.
A quick stop at Ikea, and we were on our way home. I got home and crawled into bed around 11:30pm Wednesday night. I was absolutely exhausted, but exhilarated after 48 hours of emotions, inspiration and fun. I look forward to connecting with everyone again soon and am grateful for the amazing friendships that have been created over the years.
This is SO awesome!! I live very close by! Wish I had had the gumption to open up a TPT store a few years ago as I had planned. I would have loved to have met you all too!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had so much fun!!

You COULD open a store! What's holding you back? I treat my online business as a job, but I love it just as much as teaching, so it's not real "work". :) Next year, I plan on going to the TPT Vegas conference!!!

I'm seriously thinking of opening up a TpT store as well, but have a few questions. I haven't the slightest idea of how to begin. Does it cost anything to open up a store? Is there somewhere you can learn what to do? And most importantly, how do you maintain the store while teaching in a classroom? Merci!
DeleteYou can open a store for free on TPT, but a premium membership is $60 per year. With a premium membership, you keep a bigger percentage of your sales. I started off with a few products and a regular, free membership. Once I started taking it more seriously, I upgraded to premium. I do most of my work on the store and blog during the summer. I have a long commute to work during the school year and it takes up a lot of my spare time. During the year, I create things for my own students. I polish them up and upload them to my store during holidays and during the summer. A great place for you to start is in the TPT seller forums. There is tons of information there and there's always someone there to answer any questions. :)
DeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteIl y avait quand même plusieurs francophones! :)
DeleteTu as sûrement raison. J'aimerais aussi toutes vous rencontrer, c'est certain! :-)
DeleteIt was SO fantastic to finally meet you in person!! I can't wait for the next meet-up!

It was absolutely a highlight for me to meet you too Erin! I felt as though I knew you already! We'll have to plan for a meet up again soon! :) In the meantime, let's keep in touch. Gotta love technology for that!
DeleteIt was amazing to meet you and everyone else I have gotten to know online this past year. I am excited for more meet ups in the future.
